Wednesday 28 June, at 11 am, the European Committee of the Regions – European Commission, DG RTD is hosting a joint hearing entitled “Cities as Actors of Open Innovation.” This hearing focuses on cities not merely at a spatial scale but as systems of systems: analysing multi-level, multi-dimensional and multi-sectoral interactions between different stakeholders involved in the co-creation, co-design and co-implementation of integrated and innovative solutions for urban and peri-urban areas.

The discussions elaborate on sustainable city ecosystems and open-system thinking, where both scientific and technological knowledge, as well as social innovation and new forms of cooperation are used to solve practical urban challenges. The hearing brings together the European Committee of the Regions and DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission with various constituencies and stakeholders in a discussion on the latest initiatives on the topic.

Martin Brynskov will be speaking on behalf of Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) at 11:30 in the hearing’s first session entitled “Smart and sustainable Cities – R&I for accelerating the transition”.
